How to Search for ADUs
To find homes that have an ADU (accessory dwelling unit), you will need to add an additional field to your search criteria
1.From the pro home page select Matrix search.
2.Scroll to the bottom of the search page and click on "Additional Fields Add".
- There are 3 fields that may be helpful when searching for homes with ADUs. Since none of these fields are required, you are at the mercy of how the listing agent enters the listing. For best results, you will want to run the search three different ways.
The three fields you will want to add are:
- “Secondary Living Space Desc”
- “Other Rooms”
- “Public Remarks”
Scroll down through the “Available Fields” in the left column, and click on those field names, then click the “Add” button (between the two boxes)
4. Click the gray “Back” button (at the bottom of the page) after you have added all three fields.

5. You will now see the three fields under “Additional Fields” on your search criteria page.
For best results, run your search 3 different ways:
Search using the “Secondary Living Space Desc” field:
1) Enter your search criteria
2) Select “ADU” in the “Secondary Living Space” field
3) You may also want to search for “Apt over Grg” (apartment over garage), and “Guest House” (hold down the control/command key to select multiples).
Make sure that “Or” is selected.

4) Click on “Results”.
Search using the “Other Rooms” field:
1) Enter your search criteria
2) In the “Other Rooms” field, hold down the control/command key and select “Guest House”, “Guest Quarters”, “In-Law Unit”, and “Separate Living Unit”
Make sure that “Or” is selected.

3) Click on “Results”
Search using the “Public Remarks” field:
1) Enter your search criteria
2) In the “Public Remarks” field, type in “ADU” surrounded by asterix (i.e., star or shift-8). You will enter it as “ *ADU* ”
