Check Your Listing(s) on Zillow for Accuracy

For the reasons outlined below, we believe it would be prudent for you to pay close attention to the accuracy of your listing data on Zillow.

As you may know, last year Zillow made the decision to become a brokerage company and, as such, will be entitled to a full brokerage IDX feed from an MLS.

While Zillow has yet to apply to MLSListings as a broker participant, Zillow did join CRMLS as a broker participant last month and started receiving an IDX feed from them. By virtue of our data share agreement with CRMLS, the IDX feed that CRMLS sent to Zillow included listing data from MLSListings.

During that time, inaccuracies were discovered with some of our subscribers’ data, and we escalated those problems to Zillow and CRMLS. Zillow released a statement acknowledging the issues and promising to correct them. After learning of an especially egregious set of errors with an MLSListings subscriber’s listing data on the Zillow site, we formally requested CRMLS to halt sending MLSListings data to Zillow and they complied.

The MLSListings data feed to Zillow – which had been displaced by the CRMLS feed – was reinstated as the primary source of our listing data. With that restoration, we believe the issues have now been remedied and the MLSListings data on Zillow is accurate.

Nevertheless, if you opted-in to have your listings appear on the Zillow site, we strongly encourage you to check your listings on the Zillow site to verify the accuracy and to immediately report any errors to our Customer Service team.

In closing, we should note that Zillow’s plan with MLSs to roll out IDX on a nationwide basis includes a step in the process whereby MLS staff can review a test version of the website before they cut over to the live IDX data feed.

While we cannot comment on how that process was (or was not) utilized by CRMLS and Zillow, we want to assure you that when Zillow applies to become a broker participant with MLSListings, our team will fully utilize Zillow’s process to thoroughly review their work before cutover. While many MLSs feel this is Zillow’s responsibility, we feel that if we can help stop bad data from being displayed, it is worth the extra effort on our part.
