Protecting Your MLS Login: Why You Should Never Share Credentials
Recent data breaches involving compromised usernames and passwords serve as a stark reminder that even a single vulnerability can put an entire community at risk. For MLS users, safeguarding login credentials is essential—not only to protect your own account but also to maintain the integrity of the MLS system.
Security Risks and Compliance Violations
You can’t be in two places at once, and neither can your login. Sharing your credentials with others—whether staff, colleagues, or even across unrelated accounts like your bank or gym—creates serious security risks. If you have already shared your credentials, the first step is to change your password immediately. We are auditing accounts to ensure that our systems are protected and subscribers may be fined for violating this serious policy.
The Authorized Assistant Program
If you need support staff to help manage your workload, there’s a secure alternative. The Authorized Assistant Program allows you to register an assistant, licensed or unlicensed, who will be given their own MLS login credentials. This ensures compliance with MLS policy while still allowing your assistant to:
- Enter and update listings
- Add or remove photos
- Manage your clients
- Run CMAs and more
The program costs $100 per year, plus a one-time setup fee of $25. Once your application is processed, your assistant will receive a unique login, keeping both of you compliant and protected.
It’s easy to add an authorized assistant:
1. Complete Assistant Application available for download.
2. Email the completed form back to support@mlslistings.com.
Good Password Hygiene
When login credentials are exposed, cyber attackers can exploit them to gain unauthorized access. This may lead to ransomware attacks, denial-of-service disruptions, or other security breaches that can affect the entire MLS system. Protecting your password is not just about your account—it’s about ensuring all agents can continue to do business without interruption.
What’s Next
MLSListings is continuously reviewing security protocols and implementing new safeguards. But protecting the system starts with you: never share your credentials and use secure, unique passwords.
